Steak Pie recipe

Ingredients

  • 800g Diced Stewing Steak
  • 2 tbsp Plain Flour
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil/Butter
  • 2 Large Chopped Onions
  • 500ml Beef Stock (knorr)
  • 35ml Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Puree
  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 tbsp yr brown sauce (optional)
  • Puff pastry Shop bought

To Cook

  1. Add the butter /oil into a large pan and cook the chopped onions for a few minutes.
  2. Add flour salt and pepper to the beef mix well then add in the pan.
  3. Brown the beef in the pan to sear for a few minutes.
  4. Add the beef stock to the pan and stir
  5. Add in your worchestershire sauce and YR if using and tomato puree Dijon and whisk through.
  6. Cook on a low to medium heat for approximately 1 hour until the beef is tender or 5 hrs high in slow cooker
  7. Gently pour the beef and gravy into an oven proof dish and let cool.

Prep and Cook the Pie

  1. Roll out the pastry to fit the top of your pie dish.
  2. Brush over the top of the pastry with a whisked egg yolk and make a couple of slits in the top of the pie pastry bake in the oven at 160oC for 20-25 minutes until the pastry has risen and is golden brown on the top.
  3. Serve with potatoes and root vegetables.
